The Fergus Falls High School Marching Band is one of only 100 units that has been selected to march in the Inaugural Parade in Washington, D.C., on Tuesday, Jan. 20.

High School Band Director Jim Iverson said about 1,300 units applied to the Armed Services Inaugural Committee to participate in the parade that will mark the inauguration of the 44th president, Barack Obama. Applications included audition tapes, video footage and what High School Band Director Jim Iverson described as "a full packet of application materials."

The 120 students in the band — accompanied by Iverson and fellow directors Scott Kummrow and Denis Wiese — will be departing Jan. 16 and returning Jan. 21. Iverson said the office of Minnesota Sen. Amy Klubuchar worked closely with the Fergus Falls band directors to prepare their application, and band members will be attending a Klobuchar reception for Minnesota guests on Monday, Jan. 19.

Iverson said 3 to 4 million are expected to visit Washington, D.C., for inaugural activities.

"This is an unbelievable achievement," said Fergus Falls Superintendent Jerry Ness. "Please join me in congratulating the marching band and directors Scott Kummrow, Denise Wiese and Jim Iverson."
