Supt. Ness: Safety assessment a success

On Wednesday, December 3, the Fergus Falls Public Schools held a Facility Assessment Training. Representatives from the Fergus Falls Police and Fire Departments, OTC Emergency Planners and District administrators met with two representatives from the Minnesota Department of Public Safety, a division under Homeland Security and Emergency Management Department. The purpose of the meeting was to review District-wide drills and communications, along with concentrating on the facility assessment for the Roosevelt building.

Overall, the representatives from the Department of Public Safety were pleased with our security efforts. They provided many no cost/low-cost suggestions to improve our security.  They liked how we are using an administrator/office email/text communication during an emergency and drills. The reps were also pleased that we were using Twitter and Remind to communicate with the staff and public.  (Anyone can go to our Website – www.isd544.org – to sign up for these alerts.) The key for a safer building is for everyone to know it is their responsibility to be aware of the surroundings and inform people if something is not right. Most importantly, our policy of having visitors sign in to restrict access to the buildings was recognized as a best practice. Continue reading
