Fourth and fifth grade Prairie Science students welcomed Andy Forbes of U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service in Bloomington, MN, to teach them about Mist Netting.
Mist Netting is catching songbirds in a fine, mist-like net and then banding the birds and recording information such as the bird’s gender and weight.
Mrs. Strege’s fifth graders were lucky enough to study a live black-capped chickadee being banded. After the chickadee was banded, one of the students was chosen to release it back into the wild.
