Fifth grade PSC students participate in bird banding

Fourth and fifth grade Prairie Science students welcomed Andy Forbes of U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service in Bloomington, MN, to teach them about Mist Netting.

Mist Netting is catching songbirds in a fine, mist-like net and then banding the birds and recording information such as the bird’s gender and weight.

Mrs. Strege’s fifth graders were lucky enough to study a live black-capped chickadee being banded.  After the chickadee was banded, one of the students was chosen to release it back into the wild.

LEGO League team forming

Parents of students aged 9-14: we will be starting a FIRST Lego Robotics League team next week! The team is limited to FOUR participants. There will certainly be more student interested than that, but there’s a limited space.

So we’ll be taking names of interested students and randomly selecting four participants THIS THURSDAY, Sept. 22nd. The team will begin meeting next week, and will meet every Tuesday and Thursday after school until 4:30.

Please check out this document for all of the details, including the tournament at the end of the season.
